Accord Garden
SE Como gardener Rose Steinhart lovingly cultivated the Accord Native Community Garden, which surrounds Norman Anderson’s Accord sculpture—crafted from old organ pipes that chime in the wind at noon, 3:00 PM, 6:00 PM, and 9:00 PM. Though Rose is no longer with us, dedicated SE Como volunteers continue her work.
In 2018, we replaced the worn garden sign, expanded the space, and planted more native species. Removing sod around the sculpture helped direct rainwater into the garden, mimicking a mini rain garden.
Native plants are essential—they provide food and habitat for pollinators, which support 90% of flowering plants and 75% of our food crops. Bees, butterflies, and birds all depend on spaces like this to thrive.
