Adding the University Neighborhood to the EBNP

The East Bank Neighborhoods Partnership is made up of 5 city-recognized neighborhoods:

  • Nicollet Island-East Bank

  • Marcy-Holmes (including Dinkytown)

  • Como

  • Mid-City Industrial

  • University

While the University Neighborhood is informally part of our organization, this relationship isn’t officially legalized by the City of Minneapolis. We would like to change that.

To do this, the East Bank Neighborhoods Partnership needs University Neighborhood residents, business owners and property owners to sign our petition and make the University Neighborhood an official, city-recognized member of the EBNP.

It will provide individuals with the ability to serve on our board of directors, have access to grants, and to be fully represented within our neighborhoods.

Geography

The University Neighborhood is often mistaken for just being the “University of Minnesota.” But it’s not. As you can see on the map below (click to enlarge), while the U of M campus occupies a significant portion of the University Neighborhood, it actually isn’t all of it. The Greek Community along University Avenue SE, three apartment buildings on 8th Street SE (just north of the U of M athletic facilities that line 15th Avenue SE), the Dinkydome, and many buildings in Stadium Village (east of Oak Street SE), are non U of M property.
