Neighborhood Lighting
The East Bank Neighborhoods Partnership is particularly concerned with adding pedestrian level lighting to our neighborhoods, most notably in Dinkytown.
In consultation with Council Member Robin Wonsley’s office, EBNP has recently sent a letter to Minneapolis Public Works asking for the entirety of the Dinkytown neighborhood to be reclassified as a Pedestrian Lighting Street Corridor. You can read that letter here.
Why this letter?
Reclassifying Dinkytown as a Pedestrian Lighting Street Corridor (PSLC) is the first step in allowing the city to access funds to dramatically increase pedestrian lighting in the area. Late in 2024, CM Wonsley secured $500,000 for improved pedestrian-level lighting in Dinkytown/Marcy Holmes in 2025. PSLC designation will impact what kinds of lighting this funding is allowed to go towards in Dinkytown.
