Community Engagement Associate

The East Bank Neighborhoods Partnership (EBNP) is seeking a motivated Community Engagement Associate to join our organization, driven to make positive, equitable, and lasting changes to our neighborhoods. This position will lead EBNP’s outreach and engagement activities, focusing especially on renters, students, and other underrepresented communities.

EBNP’s mission is to engage in projects that improve and enhance the quality of life in the East Bank neighborhoods of Marcy-Holmes (Dinkytown), Como, University, Nicollet Island-East Bank and Mid-City Industrial. Learn more about EBNP at www.eastbankmpls.org.  

Position Details

  • Organization: East Bank Neighborhoods Partnership

  • Position Title: Community Engagement Associate

  • Type: Part-Time, 15-20 hours per week (flexible)

  • Wage: $20 - 22 per hour

  • Reports to: EBNP Executive Director 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal skills, be comfortable speaking with diverse communities, be organized, and have experience with community outreach. The primary responsibility of this position will be to engage the East Bank’s residents, principally renters and individuals within our low-income community. EBNP’s Community Engagement Associate will focus on member and volunteer recruitment through new ways to engage underrepresented residents and businesses in the neighborhoods.

Outreach & Engagement (60%)

  • Working with EBNP Executive Director, develop and implement creative methods to engage East Bank’s residents, property owners and business owners

  • Recruit EBNP members and volunteers for projects, committees, task forces and meetings

  • Operations and logistics management for events

Communications (35%)

  • Oversee, implement, and report on various programs and projects of EBNP

  • Assist with marketing and advertising EBNP programs, events, and activities

Administrative Tasks (5%)

  • Miscellaneous tasks as assigned by EBNP Executive Director

Minimum Qualifications

  • One or more years of experience in community organizing or engagement-based grassroots work

  • Strong people skills, with ability to speak on behalf of EBNP

  • ·Able to work evenings and occasional weekends (door knocking, meetings, etc.)

  • Familiar with basic website management, email marketing platforms

  • Access to transportation (meetings)

  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds (rarely needed), able to walk for extended periods of time

  • Proficient in Google Workspace, Mac OS

Preferred Qualifications

  • ·Versed in graphic design

  • Familiar with the East Bank Neighborhoods

  • Experience in organizing large events/meetings

Como Community Garden Associate

The East Bank Neighborhoods Partnership (EBNP) is looking to hire one paid Como Community Garden Associate. This position will be approximately 12-15 hours of work per week.

The Como Community Garden Associate works with Garden Coordinators, volunteers, and community members and reports to the EBNP Executive Director. The Southeast Como neighborhood currently has 7 community gardens: one vegetable garden and six pollinator gardens.

The goal for this position is to expand and foster garden participation, support the management and caretaking of the gardens, and to host events that bring community members into Como’s gardens. Job Duties may include

  • Participate in regularly scheduled gardening days in our pollinator gardens (about 12-15 hours per month in May through October);

  • Facilitate garden functions;

  • Participate in and support potential new gardens (if any);

  • Meet with and assist Garden Coordinators;

  • Support the distribution of produce from FairShare Farm in cooperation with Southeast Seniors;

  • Welcome community into the gardens as visitors and/or volunteers;

  • Work with EBNP’s staff to develop outreach through email, social media, in-person, and place-based strategies;

  • Meet regularly with garden coordinators to coordinate activities and discuss progress;

  • Organize and acquire basic resources for the gardens as needed;

  • Assist in pre- and post-season garden planning;

  • Assist with grant applications to raise funds for projects and initiatives;

  • Help organize gardening activities and outreach for the Como Cookout and other SE Como events; and

  • Promote gardening as a way to improve our environment, prevent stormwater runoff, and sustain pollinators; and

  • Other duties as needed. 

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest in native pollinator gardens and agriculture/horticulture;

  • Available for in-person hands-on gardening late April through October

  • Strong communication and organization skills;

  • Ability to work in Google Workplace and video conferencing;

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and organizational pages; and

  • Flexibility and capability to work both remotely with proper guidance and onsite at the gardens, both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant gardening experience;

  • Stormwater management and rain garden knowledge;

  • Experience with habitat restoration native plants, gardening for pollinators, and organic strategies for addressing invasive plants;

  • Event Planning or organizing experience;

  • Currently enrolled in a higher education program in Minneapolis or St. Paul;

  • Education in horticulture or agriculture;

  • Connection to Minneapolis neighborhoods, and/or live in East Bank neighborhoods area and

  • Familiarity with multiple languages.

Compensation

This is part-time position and will be paid at $16 - 18 per hour
